If it ain't broke don't fix it.

So Why is everyone so surprised that Chris Grayling has identified another easy money making scam where Private companies will be given a very real and readymade cash cow just like the Olympic fiasco. Did G4S lose money for delivering a bad job? “No” they simply didn’t make as much profit as first predicted.
Now, let’s look at the Probation Service, a public body that is actually doing what it is paid to do. How does it achieve this? It employs highly skilled and motivated staff that actually care about protecting the public. Many of those staff working far beyond contracted hours, without pay in order to get the job done. That is called “good will” and it costs the government nothing.
So what the plan? Move the vast majority of those staff (70%) into the private sector where G4S, Serco and many more fragmented opportunists will “cash in”...on this feeding frenzy. Pay and conditions will drop, the cost of staff and quality of service will reduce significantly and many staff will be “forced to leave”. The new highly paid accountants will prove their worth and claim the big bonuses for the share holders. The big companies will become wholly reliant upon the “voluntary sector” to provide unskilled, unqualified and ill equipped “mentors”.
So what does the future look like? The Criminal Justice System is an emerging market, a new way to get rich and an opportunity for handpicked friends of the Coalition Government to make vast profits at the expense of existing victims of crime.
In my view that crime will increase, many more victims will be created, many will get hurt and some will die. G4S and Serco will have their profit and Chris Grayling will keep his pension when he retires from office at the next election.
Benjamin Franklin once said “Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes” we can now add G4S and Serco’s profits to that famous quote.
